Leave Chilika about 5 hours before departure. Boat trips run late more often than they run early, so build the buffer around the boat, not the road.
- Pickups run from Barkul, Rambha and Satapada — three different jetties on very different sides of the lake, so confirm which one you are actually at.
- Satapada adds significant distance versus Barkul; the route back is via Puri rather than straight up NH16.
- NH16 from Balugaon northwards is fast; the lake-side approach roads are the slow part.
