Cuttack is where a good number of Puri-bound trains actually stop, particularly overnight services from the north and west, and it is far enough out that the onward leg is a real drive rather than a hop. The route skirts Bhubaneswar rather than going through it, which is faster than the map makes it look — provided you clear the Kathajodi bridge before the morning rush.
