Konark has very little in the way of on-demand transport — it is a temple town, not a taxi market, and hailing something reliable at 5am outside the Sun Temple is not a plan. Travellers who stay at Chandrabhaga or in the Konark beach hotels almost always need the airport drop arranged in advance, which is exactly what this page is for.
Timing & Highway Guidance
Leave Konark about 4 hours before departure. The Marine Drive route is scenic but slower than the map suggests, and there is no useful shortcut if you fall behind.
- Two realistic routes: the Marine Drive via Puri and Pipili, or the inland road via Nimapara — we pick whichever is moving on the day.
- Marine Drive has no lighting on long stretches and no fuel stops; it is a fine daytime drive and a poor one to improvise at night.
- Chandrabhaga and Sun Temple hotel pickups are straightforward; the beach-side lanes are narrow but drivable.
