Kakatpur sits on the Prachi river north of Puri, and the drive out there passes through the rice country most visitors to coastal Odisha never see. The temple itself is unshowy; its importance is in the Nabakalebara connection, and in being a serious Shakti shrine that has not been polished into a tourist stop.
About the shrine
The goddess who, by tradition, reveals in a dream to the temple servitors where the sacred neem trees for the new Jagannath idols are to be found. That role ties Kakatpur directly into the Nabakalebara ceremony, and gives a modest village temple outsized standing in Odia religious life.

Planning the trip
- Tuesdays draw the heaviest local crowds — a weekday morning otherwise is quiet.
- The last stretch is a rural road; it is fine in any vehicle but slower than the map suggests.
- Often combined with Ramachandi and Konark on a longer loop back to Puri along the coast.

How the fare works
This is priced as a return darshan trip, not a one-way drop. The same cab and driver stay with you for the whole outing and wait at the temple while you queue — there is no per-hour waiting charge and no second fare for the journey back to Puri.

Travelling with elders
