For pilgrims who have already done Puri, Nilamadhav is the trip that puts it in context: this is where the story starts. The temple sits above the Mahanadi at Kantilo in the Nayagarh hills, and the setting — river, forest, a hill approach — has changed less than most places in the account.
About the shrine
The shrine at the origin of the Jagannath story. Nilamadhav is the form the Lord is said to have taken before the Puri temple existed — worshipped in the forest by the Sabara chieftain Viswavasu, and the deity whose disappearance sets the whole Jagannath tradition in motion.

This is priced as a return darshan trip, not a one-way drop. The same cab and driver stay with you for the whole outing and wait at the temple while you queue — there is no per-hour waiting charge and no second fare for the journey back to Puri.

Travelling with elders
