Konark is the trip almost every Puri visitor makes, and the one most often rushed. The temple deserves a couple of unhurried hours, and the road there — the Marine Drive along the coast — is genuinely part of the outing rather than a means of getting to it. We hold the cab at the monument gate so the visit is not run against a meter.
About the shrine
A 13th-century temple built as the sun god's chariot, with twenty-four carved wheels and seven horses. Worth being clear about: this is a UNESCO World Heritage monument, not an active place of worship — there is no deity installed and no darshan in the ritual sense.

Planning the trip
- Entry is ticketed by the Archaeological Survey of India, paid at the gate; the fare here covers the transport only.
- Morning light is better for the carvings and the crowds are thinner before about 10am.
- Ramachandi Temple and Chandrabhaga Beach are both directly on the Marine Drive route and cost nothing extra in time.
Worth combining with Chandrabhaga Beach and Ramachandi Temple on the Marine Drive if you have the time — tell us when you book and we will build it into the same fixed fare rather than adding it as an extra.
How the fare works
This is priced as a return darshan trip, not a one-way drop. The same cab and driver stay with you for the whole outing and wait at the temple while you queue — there is no per-hour waiting charge and no second fare for the journey back to Puri.

Travelling with elders
Most of the people we drive on these runs are on a pilgrimage with parents or grandparents, so the pace is set accordingly — no rushing the return, stops when they are needed, and an Innova recommended over a sedan on anything past two hours each way.
