Based in Puri and want to see Chilika’s Irrawaddy dolphins? Satapada — the main boat jetty on Chilika Lake — sits about 50 km from Puri, roughly a 1.5-hour lakeside drive. It’s the shorter, more scenic approach than coming all the way from Bhubaneswar, which is why travellers already in Puri usually set out from there.
How the day works
We pick you up early from your Puri hotel — mornings give the best dolphin-sighting conditions — and drive to the Satapada jetty. Your driver waits there through your boat ride, then brings you back to Puri. Boat tickets are run by a local cooperative and paid at the jetty, separately from the cab fare.
