Mahendragiri is one of the highest peaks of the Eastern Ghats, rising to about 1,500 metres in Gajapati district near Paralakhemundi. Steeped in Mahabharata legend, its slopes hold ancient stone temples associated with the Pandavas, and the hill is prized for its cool climate and biodiversity.
Getting there
Mahendragiri is a hill day trip from the Berhampur / Paralakhemundi side — the last stretch is a winding ghat road, so we recommend an SUV or Innova. Reach the region on our Bhubaneswar Airport to Berhampur taxi, or cover it with Taptapani and Jirang on the Berhampur Grand Day Tour. See the Berhampur guide for the wider area.
